Hillyfields is ideally located in South East London, Travel Zone 2 and is part of the British Rail network and the London Underground tube network.   We also have the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) at Lewisham.  Brockley is also served by frequent London bus routes

London Tourists

We have 3 overground rail stations to Central London. Brockley & Crofton Park are within 10 mins walk and Lewisham is 15 mins walk).
Train time to London is just 9 mins.
East London Line from Brockley links us to Canary Wharf and the Jubilee Line

Oyster Zone 1-2

  • As a rough guide,  (December 2010) it will cost adults a maximum of £5.20 (off peak) or £7.20 (peak) to take unlimited train, tube and buses etc from Brockley and then in and around London within Zone 2.

  • From London Bridge: for Waterloo, Charing Cross or Cannon Street, get off the train at London Bridge and change East platforms. This will take about 2 mins with very little walking.

Waterloo East to Charing Cross has the best and most photographed view in London. The train crosses by bridge over the top of the River Thames, offering you views of the River, Houses of Parliament, London eye and the whole London Skyline. Whether daytime or nightime, this is an amazing view that you would miss if travelling by Underground (tube) train.

Bus Services to London, Greenwich & Blackheath

Bus services cost £1 per journey using your Oyster card. 

200 metres away in Brockley Road you will find frequent bus services to the Centre of London.  An absolutely great way to see London and Londoners  at a slower pace.

171 route - Brockley to Aldwych [around 40 mins in typical London traffic].  Also serves New Cross for large supermarket (Sainsbury)

172 route - Brockley to St Paul's Cathedral [around 40 mins in typical London traffic]

122 route - Adelaide Avenue - to Lewisham for shopping centre and Lewisham street market, one of London's oldest remaining street markets, selling fruit and vegetables and clothes.  The Riverdale shopping centre has supermarkets and clothes stores.

P4 - at the top of Tressillian Road (75 metres) - to Lewisham.

There are frequent buses from Lewisham to Greenwich and Blackheath, about a 10 minute journey.  Also bus services to the 02 Millennium Dome (around 18 mins).


Getting to Hillyfields from Airports & Eurostar

Stansted Airport

  • Stansted Express to Liverpool St
  • bus or taxi to London Bridge (about 10 mins)
  • Overground train from London Bridge to Brockley (10 mins) (taxi rank outside the station)
  • If you have a lot of luggage catch any train calling at Lewisham station (from Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Waterloo East, London Bridge) and get a black cab from Lewisham station for about £10.

When you book we will send you maps and directions, airport and cab information; please let us know what airport or station you are coming into.  The walk from Brockley or Crofton Park station is about 10 mins.  No hills or rough terrain.

Thames Clipper Riverboat from Greenwich Pier

A great way to get to London and see the sights from the River is to go to Greenwich (bus or walk to Lewisham and then bus or DLR from Lewisham to Greenwich).  Or if you are feeling lazy, a cab to Greenwich is about £8 for 4 people.

From Greenwich Pier you can get the Thames Clipper to the Tower of London, London Bridge, Embankment and the London Eye; in the other direction you can go to the O2 Arena - which has plenty of other events on all the time, aside from concerts.   The O2 has bars and restaurants too.

Oyster pay as you go is valid on Thames Clippers.
